Last June 30 was the World Day of Social Networks (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.). This date is celebrated annually to reflect the importance of these platforms in our professional environment, personal life and, especially, in that of our sons and daughters. Social networks allow us greater communication and interconnection both between people, and between professionals and companies. In fact, it is increasingly common to have a digital CV and find new job opportunities or business contacts through social networks.

Here are some tips to make safe use of both your personal and professional profiles:

  • Use different passwords for each social network and change them periodically: otherwise, cybercriminals could access all of our information (contacts, connections, habits, ideology, etc.).
  • Activate the two-step verification: In the privacy settings you can activate the “double authentication factor”. Thus, to make password changes or use our profile, we will need a code that we receive by SMS or e-mail. Thus, to make password changes or use our profile, we will need a code that we receive by SMS or e-mail.
  • Enable the option to send alerts: so we can detect in time a possible identity theft by a cybercriminal. In addition, we avoid the dissemination of fake news, which may affect our image.
  • Periodically review your privacy settings: is the way to see if a second session has been opened from another device. If it was you, always click on the “remember password” or “keep the session logged in or open” box. If it has been a third party, we could be the victims of a profile theft and we must report it.
  • “Stalking” or obsessive harassment and “haters” or haters:these are people who obsessively follow, monitor or spy our information published on social networks. It can be out of admiration, but also out of hatred towards a person or even towards a company or brand. It is a problem that, unfortunately, many minors and teenagers suffer, who are harassed on social networks. But, companies can also be the focus of these attacks (with the consequent damage to their image). Block these users and, if the harassment doesn’t stop, report it.
