As cyberattack techniques and existing types of viruses are constantly being perfected and evolved, software companies are forced to correct all kinds of malfunctions and implement security improvements, to continue to ensure the privacy of all our information.

In the daily use of new technologies, there are updates that depend on the IT department or that are executed in an automated way, but there are others that require the user to be the one who clicks on the corresponding “update now and restart” or “postpone” buttons. .

As users of corporate devices, and more so if we are in a situation of remote work or telework, We must be aware of the importance of having both the operating system and the different programs, applications, firewall, firmware and antivirus installed that we have installed up to date. And, although all these terms may exceed us, our only task is to update when the corresponding notice appears on the screen.

It is true that, sometimes, we reach a ceiling of updates that prevents us from using certain programs or applications on our devices. It can also happen that the installed operating system is no longer compatible (due to not being able to install the new versions). Devices also have a life cycle that we sometimes call “planned obsolescence”. Once the maximum usefulness has been reached, it becomes out of date and we must, necessarily, replace it with a newer model, with greater functionality and improved safety aspects.

We must apply this same advice both in the workplace and on a personal level. We must bear in mind that, depending on our lifestyle, technology surrounds us in many areas (computers, mobile phones, tablets, smartwatch, smartTV, Alexa, carputer, etc.) and it is preferable to play it safe, than to have to suffer consequences that we could have avoided … UPDATING.
