GET EDUCATED AND INFORMED:

Most of the time, when you contact us through these Secure&TIPS to ask personal or professional questions, you start the message with “I’m afraid that…”, “I am worried that…”.

When do we feel afraid or worried about something?

When the situation we have to face is unfamiliar, poses a risk, we are careless by nature or we feel that whatever we do we are at a disadvantage against the opponent and we cannot avoid the damage that will be caused, in this case, by a cybercriminal.

But, let’s forget about cybercriminals for a moment and imagine a person who, hiking in nature, is afraid of facing a wolf or any other wild animal. If we are not used to living with this type of ferocious animal, we are more likely to make basic mistakes, which if we had been previously informed about the behavior of that animal, we would not have made (for example, we might be attacked for trying to take a selfie or, on the contrary, we might run away in an attempt not to be hunted).

The same happens with cybercriminals, in many occasions we are the ones who expose ourselves to attack or we do not know how to recognize frauds and scams in time.

That is why in today’s Secure&TIPS we would like to remind you of the importance of being educated and informed about cyber-attacks, in other words, to be curious about how cybercriminals attack us and how we can avoid them or even confront them without serious damage.

How can we improve and learn to protect ourselves?

  • Following the recommendations of our Secure&TIPS.
  • Asking us, as experts, all the doubts you may have (you can answer directly to the mail).
  • Looking for training and information on Youtube.
  • Conducting webinars and courses related to Cybersecurity or Privacy, at a personal or work level.
  • Reading posts about Cybersecurity on social networks (whether our own, those of the media or those of law enforcement authorities).
  • Paying attention to news about cyber-attacks, especially those that may affect our data because we are customers or employees of the affected company (e.g., cyber-attack on a bank).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If we suspect that we are victims of a cyberattack, we recommend as always in the professional field, request support from the IT Department, the Security Manager or the direct superior. And on a personal level report it to the police authorities.
