“Little minds, big witticisms. Let’s protect our minors from the traps of cybercriminals.”
After the holiday and family break, and with the return of adults to work and children back to school, we would like to give the following recommendations to properly protect the devices used for personal/professional purposes and those used by our children for educational purposes in their return to school, we would like to give the following recommendations to properly protect the devices used for personal/professional purposes and those used by our sons and daughters for educational purposes during their return to school.
Educational devices used by minors (both personal and those assigned by the school):
- Activate in the settings of devices using “parental control”. With this, we will be able to block them from making payments or accessing content that is not suitable for their age, and also prevent them from accessing our personal or professional content by mistake and deleting it.
- Check the browsers’ history periodically, to be able to control that the pages visited by the minor are appropriate to his age or mental maturity.
- Insist that they use strong passwords. En some platforms, such as social networks or e-mail, two-factor authentication has been implemented. If we configure it, we will receive a message or an email to validate, for example, a password change.
- If they use social networks, protect them by asking them to accept us as a follower or contact. This measure is not intended to limit their freedom of communication and learning in the use of new technologies. The objective is to anticipate in time harmful situations for them (uploading inappropriate photos or receiving and posting derogatory comments).
- Your information is also our information, which means limiting, as much as possible, the use of our personal and, especially, professional devices by minors (even if it is only to watch a video or play on an app). They could delete information or data important to us and our work, or access payment data and download unsecured applications without our consent.
Professional devices (including personal devices, especially if they are used for work purposes or have been used by minors):
- Delete the public WIFI networks or those of establishments (hotels, airports, restaurants, etc.) used during your trip, as well as the applications that have been used temporarily.
- Block and delete contacts that you have temporarily saved for activities, events, excursions, etc. that you will no longer need.
- Review and restore application privacy settings. For example, if we have allowed an app to access the microphone, camera, our location or payment data and it is no longer needed for further use.
- Check all bank charges, especially if you have not followed up continuously during your vacation. The sooner you detect fraud, the sooner you can get your money back.
- Change the passwords of the most used applications during the vacations (social networks, online banking, email, etc.). Especially those related to your company or organization.
IMPORTANT NOTE: We remind you again that if you have the slightest suspicion that you are suffering a security problem or the certainty that it is a cyber-attack, do not hesitate to communicate it to the IT department, so that they can advise you appropriately. And on a personal level he reports the cyberattack to the police authority.
